Paul is really trying to show those who follow the Law that following Christ is not rejecting the Law but following it for what it was intended to bring. The simple truth is this: if we did not have the Old testament Law (10 commandments, etc) we would not be aware that some of things we do are sin, if we were not aware of our sin we would go on sinning, because we are aware of our sin we can come and live for Jesus who forgives sin and makes it possible for us to sin less.
Someone might say then why give the Law, if we did not have it then we wouldn't know we were sinning and everyone would be okay. That does not work because even if I don't know I am sinning, I am still sinning and still an enemy of God.
Paul points out what happens to all of us. The Law tells us what sin is and instead of turning away from it we become more interested in it and desire it more. That is our sinful nature, to go after more sin. When we come to Christ we come to a new nature and that new nature conflicts with our sinful nature. The only one that can help us is the One that saves us. Stay close to Christ and you will have victory over the sinful nature, stay close to sin and you'll lose every time. I pray that you'll know the power of the risen Jesus over your sin problem and that you will run towards Christ and...
