Romans 14 (click here)

Romans 14

This chapter is addressing an issue between the Christian Jews and Gentiles. Basically, some Christians thought that certain meats were wrong for God's people to eat (Jewish law), while others ate whatever they wanted. Paul says each person should go to God with those questions and live by the convictions God gives them. Above all, however, Christians should always try and eliminate conflict, so if one Christian knows his friend doesn't eat the meat he should love him enough to not scarf it down in front his friend.
Here's a personal example:
I believe my faith in God still allows me to, and is often strengthened, by listening to secular music. However not every Christian feels this way and possibly a young Christian who has just turned their life over to Christ might be easily tempted by even tame secular music. So, according to this verse I should enjoy protecting and loving my Christian friend more than listening to my music.
I would love to read other thoughts on this.

go live.

It makes me think of the different denominations each have different particular practices but ultimately they all follow God. But I think that it was important that Paul addresses the notion of not being the stumbling block to people... and I think that sometimes we have to be cautious towards issues that may or may not cause others to stumble.

I think the idea of making sacrifices for a friend or fellow believer is one that needs to be practiced more often... I like the music illustration because it is good for me to know that someone feels the same way about that as I do. I am a major music buff and so I like knowing what's out there. It doesn't mess with my mind to listen to it and it does kinda suck when people mess with me abou t the fact that it isn't all Christian music. However I do believe, even if you feel like it isn't messing with you, if it cusses and has a lot of suggestive stuff, it should still be avoided.. But it is good we all know that we should be looking out for one another and making sure we don't become a stumbling block
