Proverbs 20 (click here)

Proverbs 20

This chapter really speaks in specifics about the way people and people in certain roles (kings, etc.) should wisely live. A few verses really hit me head on, feel free to comment on the ones that hit you as well.

  • V.1 This verse is one that is often thought of when the discussion of Christians and alcohol comes up. It is true that this verse is likely discussing the foolishness of being drunk (staggering). It is also true that many people do not have the wisdom to stop before it gets to that point and for those of you who are under age this isn't even a question, it would be foolish to violate the law especially for something that turns you into a mocker or brawler.
  • V.3 There is wisdom is settling things between yourself and other people. When this verse says that any fool can get into a quarrel (fight) it applies to physical as well as verbal. Many of us talk about avoiding "drama" and yet we find ourselves foolishly in the middle of it. We should ask God for wisdom in dealing with other people properly, it can be difficult but in the long term it's a lot better.
  • v.7 This verse outlines once again the benefit of wisdom in the long term. We should always weight the consequences of our actions.
  • v.11 A good reputation is of utmost importance. Actions are indisputable evidence of a life changed by Christ, these are not once in a while actions, but actions that are consistent and pure (the right motives)
  • v.24 The overall theme of Proverbs stated once again. We are not meant to live this life alone, it's not just unwise it's impossible to live a good life without the guidance of the Lord.
  • v.25 Carefully consider what you commit to, it's okay and even wise to think about carefully first.
  • v.30 This is not talking about physical abuse, but again the long term blessing of discipline.

think wisely today and ...

Go Live!
