God is God and we are not. This is the first step in understanding the danger of pride and haughtiness spoken about in this chapter. When we take credit for the things God has done or try to do things on our own without God's direction we are essentially putting ourselves above Him. Read verses 5-9 again. The Lord detests those who put themselves above Him, this means even when we are hurting and don't turn to God, He detests that. God wants to guide you and lead you in a good life, just let Him. There is a hymn that says "only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now, He will save you, He will save you, He will save you now." Sometimes we try to save ourselves, but we must let "God guide our steps." Verse 6 teaches us that out of love for God and complete trust in Him we can overcome those weak areas of sin in our lives. I hope you will realize today the truth of verse 8, that materail things pale in compartison to knowing and living for the Lord, it's true.
