Proverbs 15
I almost stopped at the first verse, that's some wise advice. During the course of a normal week think about how much trouble we could all avoid by just giving a gentle answer. This chapter goes on to reinterate the dangers of foolish talk. However, I was struck by the advantages of the wise use of the tongue. I dwell so often on the stupid and destructive things I say, that I forget that God can actually use the tongue for good. We must be careful, Ephesians 5 states again what kind of talk to avoid but emphasizes as well the need to use our talk to thank God for all He does (we first have to recognize what He does) and to encourage one another.
The rest of the chapter speaks again to the wisdom of discipline. Discipline carries a negative meaning to most of us for various reasons. In many ways that is what Proverbs is saying, the righteous will pursue God and He will lead them down the highway of wisdom. To be fit for the road He must do maintenance on us, we are the vehicles of His presence in the world. I might have over extended the illustration there, but I hope the point isn't lost. Discipline takes many forms, but welcome the opportunity to grow in wisdom, in Christ likeness and
