Proverbs 13 (click here)

Proverbs 13

This is a great chapter to talk about the idea of "delayed gratification." This chapter looks at this idea in the area of money, get a little as you go instead of trying to get as much as you can now and spending it just as quickly. It also explores this idea in the area of discipline and righteousness, if you want to be wise you have to work out. Wicked comes natural and its pretty easy, but once we give ourselves to Christ we have a new nature and we need to develop it. Delayed gratification is difficult because we are very "I see it, I want it, I get it type of people." But that kind of outlook on life is not disciplined and can get us into real trouble. We are called to wait on God for all kinds of things: in relationships, opportunities, finances, and even spiritual callings. Its in our waiting that we grow closer to God, waiting does not mean stop and sit around for God to do something, it means yield to what you know God is telling you to do, be faithful with what you have and look back way down the road and be amazed at what He has done. Does this make sense? Comment on how delayed gratification looks or could look in your life and instead of worrying about what you don't have thank God for what you do, do the right thing and...

Go Live.

Believe it or not, this is one of those things that I have actually figured out how to do. It's really difficult and I don't always do it, but I can say that waiting on God is a great thing. I feel like you hear so much more from Him that way and it becomes more clear the steps he is going to have you take in your life. However, I do believe with our "I see it, I want it, I get it" mentality, it is so hard to just wait. Many times we want it and we want it right then and there. I believe everyone should master that talent of waiting on God though.
