Romans 3 (click here)

God's righteousness, that He is full of right, is proof that He is trustworthy or faithful. Evidently some people were accusing Paul of saying that in order for us to know how perfect God is we have to continually sin. This, Paul says, is completely false because who God is does not depend on who we are or what we do. God's law teaches us that we all come short of what God wants, but simply trying to follow a list of rules won't fix the problem. In His justice God must punish those who oppose Him with their lives, those who are not righteous, and that is everyone. This is why we use the term "saved" when we talk about having a relationship with Jesus, we are saved from what our lives of sin earn us, that is death.
  • Some of the Jews felt they were okay before God because they had the law. In what ways do people sometimes think that our following rules alone will make us okay with God?
  • How is God's wrath justified?

God is the only one that can make us okay before Himself, so it is our trust in Him that justifies or save us in His presence. Not just the good ones among us but all of us. We are all able to be saved because of the sacrifice of Christ. Such great a salvation demands a life that is obedient in word, action, and thought.
