John 8 (click here)

Jesus is eager to reveal who He is and what He came to do, but some of the people seem to not have a clue and not care even what He has to say.
  • Why don't we want to hear from Jesus sometimes?

When the teachers of the Law brought the woman to Jesus, they were using her to try and trap Jesus with a tricky question.

  • In what ways are we guilty of trying to prove a point and forgetting or disregarding individuals involved?

Jesus talked about being a slave to sin, and being free in Christ.

  • Why is slavery to sin more attractive than freedom in Christ?
  • When Jesus says "free indeed", what does that mean to you?
  • How could living in a "free country" such as that United States, cause us to take for granted or even resist the freedom Jesus offers? (think about the response of the Jews in this passge)

We hope that you will respond to some or all of these questions and post your comments or maybe more questions. Let's keep the conversation going, pursue the truth and...

Go Live

I think a lot of the reason we don't hear from Jesus is because we harden our hearts to Him a lot. I know for me personally I do it without even realizing it a lot. Something will happen and I refuse to let anything in. I think a lot of times we don't hear from Jesus is because we aren't seeking to hear from him. Which is never good.

As far as the slavery being more attractive, I would say that it's because it's a much easier life to live in some senses. Sin is fun and easy to do. I think ultimately, especially for teenagers, being in that slavery is a lot "cooler" too in many ways. It's much easier to be in with the in crowd if you are able to do whatever without having the Holy Spirit on your back.

For me, free indeed means that you can now have hope. But it is a different kind of hope. Even the lost of lost can have hope but I think that free indeed means that you know that you have something better waiting for you. Something better than the world. Something that will pull you in and hold you in an embrace at all times but yet let you be free to beat the world.

I don't have a response to the final question. Way too tired. I'll try to pick my brain more tomorrow and respond though.
