One of the really cool things about the Spirit speaking through God's word is that no matter how many times you read it, the Lord can bring out a hidden truth. I have read the story of the feeding of the 5,000 since I was very young and I even knew that it made Jesus really popular. But, v. 15 really stuck out to me today because I got to thinking that everything in us as humans would've told Jesus to go for it when the people wanted to forcibly make Him king. Because of His spiritual nature (talked about in v. 63) He withstood the temptation of earthly fame (Matthew 4 tells us he'd initially withstood this temptation in the wilderness) and withdrew to be alone. I pray that you and I will hear the call of God above the noise of earthly praise.
The story of Jesus calming the sea took me back to Kirk who spoke to our students at camp. He told a story of two ships on the same sea, blown by the same wind. One ship made it, the other was destroyed because it veered off course. Without Jesus at the center of your life (right in the middle of the boat) you and will float off course and become in danger of destruction.
There's much more to say about this chapter, so I'll let you all say it. Have a great day and....
