This chapter is in one word, sad. Read in isolation, without the hope of the chapters come the death of Christ is a heart wrenching picture as He slowly dies in front of his mother and closest freinds. We are reminded that death is difficult and painful.

Much has been written and said about the sayings of Christ on the cross. I was struck by "I am thirsty." For God's plan to be fulfilled even the littlest of things had to occur, like the physical need of relieving parched lips. God is in the details, in the day in and day out grind of life.
